NTU X Take a Note

I’ve been a big fan of bullet journal since last year. It is probably the best journal method I’ve ever tried. Bullet journal does make my life more productive and organized. I’m in greater control of the tasks going on in my life. I’ve written a post regarding how to write a bullet journal, and also a post on A Day Magazine about specific functions and details of bullet journal. I indeed introduce this topic a lot within the year. (I’m really a big fan though lol.)

I first used the 2016 planner from NTU Press X Take a Note as my bullet journal, then a soft cover black Moleskine and a hard cover military green Leuchtturm1917, and finally, I’m moving into my new Design Letters E notebook. I’ve been quite into the journal writing process, and I did get something to share. I’ve recently simplified the layout due to lifestyle and job changes. Without further due, let’s take a quick look at my future bullet journal!

My Moleskine and Leuchtturm1917 for the past months

Both designs of Moleskine and Leuchtturm1917 are suitable for bullet journaling, but I prefer the paper quality and the page number designs of Leuchtturm1917. I even planned to have my next bullet journal a Leuchtturm1917. However, when I accidentally pumped into this quite personalized E letter notebook from Design Letters, I know it will be my future journal companion.

My new bullet journal for my following new life in NYC

This Design Letters journal also has page numbers printed on it, but it is all blank. Compared with the checked pages of Moleskine and Leuchtturm1917, the all blank pages take more time to set up.

At the very beginning of my bullet journal journey, I used to doodle on every page. Now, I just minimize the layout. I only use highlighters to add some extra colors of the pages, or use washitapes to decorate the paper margins.

Monthly spread

In fact, there’s no specialty of my bullet journal layout. I have a yearly spread on the first page, then the monthly spread. After the monthly, I keep a page remain blank, to jot down some post ideas, wish list, or whatever thoughts that come into my mind. On the other page, I have a monthly goal setup. I’ll write down my saving goals, and tasks and posts I wish to accomplish in the month. If I achieve the goal, I’ll cross the dot in front of the tasks. (About bullet journal keys, you can find more specific introductions in my previous posts.)

Monthly goal

Then it is my weekly spread.

It’s a bit different from normal weekly spread. I do not like to put all seven days a week in the same page, neither do I like to separate them into 2 pages. Therefore, I just keep 5 days a page. This way, I feel my days more coherent (a bit weirdo I know).

After the weekly spread, it’s my monthly expense tracker. I don’t do daily spread though. The space of the weekly spread is enough for me to do all the planning. Expense tracker is a must for me. I really need to keep track of my expenses in details in order not to overspend.

In the back of the 6 months layout, I still have more than half of the journal pages left. I usually use them to write whatever in my mind: things I would like to try, topics I would love to illustrate, and even my personal diary. Anyways, there’s no limitation in this part.

Weekly spread

I used to keep a Habit Tracker in my Moleskine. However, it did not work well for me, so I canceled this part when I moved to my Leuchtturm1917.

There’s no “right” setup or layout of bullet journal. The only thing that matters is that it fits your lifestyle and personal usage. After all, bullet journal is just a technique helping us to live a more conscious, organized and productive life. Don’t be circumscribed in forms!
